I place low, yet reasonable reasonable bids on vehicles for sale on government auction sites and wait to receive the “you have been outbid,” notification.

My $550 bid on the 2001 ram (work truck, 3.9/auto with 275k miles) didn’t get surpassed until 10 minutes before it closed.

It’s a proxy bid system like eBay. I never bid more than I have in the bank and I don’t bid on non-runners. If I do wind up winning something then I can either keep or sell.
